2013 Vancouver International Boat Show
Many people, myself included, consider the Vancouver Boat Show as the unofficial opening of the boating season. It might still be a bit cool and wet for overnight trips but it’s a good time to finish last year’s projects or maybe start new ones. What better place to get help and ideas? With more than 250 exhibitors, if you can’t find it here, you will probably have a hard time finding it anywhere.
BC Place stadium was the dry venue where many new boats up to 45 feet, including sail and power, were displayed. Everything from canoes, inflatables, kayaks, up to new Meridian yachts covered the floor of the stadium. There was a wood boat builder with hand made skiffs and doreys and do-it –yourself wood kayak kits. Even Duma, the wakeboarding Jack Russell Terrier, was there showing off her boat handling and boarding skills!
The floating boat show was hosted by the Granville Island Marina. Free transportation was provided between venues. At Granville Island, many more new and used boats were on display, both power and sail. New to the show this year was the Greenline 40 hybrid yacht. When fully charged, high-tech batteries provide 4.5 knots, but only for 20 nm. The primary engines are fuel efficient twin Cummins 150hp diesels.
If you missed the Vancouver International Boat show this year, be sure to mark your calender on the first weekend of February 2014.
